Decking in Wokingham - sub-frame first, finish second.
We design and build decking for Wokingham families - the kind of work where the detail beneath the surface matters as much as the finish on top.

What we mean by decking
The bit beneath the surface.
Decking lives or dies on the sub-frame. Most failed decks didn't fail on the surface - they failed on joist spacings, bearer support and ventilation that were quietly cut to save a day.
Sub-frames built to spec
Joists at the right centres for the board, bearers supported off independent posts where the ground demands it, full ventilation beneath every panel.
Material chosen for use
Hardwood for warmth and grain, composite for low maintenance and stability - each with trade-offs we'll explain rather than gloss over.
Detailed properly
Hidden fixings where the deck will be looked at; recessed LED runs laid in at sub-frame stage; integrated planters and step nosings finished cleanly.
Why this works in Wokingham
Locally tuned, not location-swapped.
Wokingham has two kinds of decking project. The older properties near town often want a low platform that sits with the house and the lawn. The newer estates around Woosehill and Finchampstead tend to want a raised deck off the kitchen - and almost always with retaining and steps down to the garden behind it.
Newer Wokingham estates often have narrow side returns and shared boundaries. We plan access and material delivery carefully so neighbours stay onside and the project runs cleanly.
- Narrow side returns - Mini diggers where they fit, barrowed materials where they don't. Routes protected with boards through the build.
- Shared driveways - Deliveries timed and routed to keep neighbours onside. We brief everyone before the dig.
- Estate sub-base condition - Developer-spec ground is rebuilt to proper depth rather than re-skinned - the difference shows in three winters.

Woosehill · RG41
Raised hardwood deck off a new kitchen extension.
A Woosehill family wanted a deck large enough for dining off a kitchen extension that finished a metre above lawn level. Hardwood balau on a fully ventilated treated sub-frame, integrated step lights, planters built into the perimeter. Twelve days on site; warmer underfoot than the composite alternatives we sampled.

Common questions
What Wokingham clients usually ask about decking.
Our garden in Finchampstead is shaded - will composite go green?+
Any decking will gather organic film in deep shade. Composite cleans off easily with a stiff brush and warm water; hardwood needs an annual oil if you want to keep the warmth of the tone. We talk through aspect and maintenance on the first visit.
Will the deck last on damp ground?+
Yes - when the sub-frame is detailed for it. We lift the deck off the ground on adjustable supports, ventilate the perimeter and use ground-suitable joist material. Most failures we're called to fix come from sub-frames that weren't.
Can you build over an existing patio or concrete?+
Often, yes - adjustable supports let us level a new deck over old paving without a full break-out. We assess the slab condition first.
Do you handle balustrades, steps and integrated planters?+
Yes. All built into the same sub-frame, finished in matching timber or composite. We prefer to design the whole platform as one piece rather than bolting extras on later.
