What we mean by garden renovations
The bit beneath the surface.
A full renovation is the most complicated thing we do - and the most rewarding when it's properly planned. The difference between a good one and a frustrating one is decided weeks before anyone breaks ground.
Designed before it's built
Plan, materials, layout and budget all agreed before any spade hits the ground. No surprises mid-project, no scope creep.
All trades under one roof
Hard landscaping, planting, drainage, electrics, outbuildings - co-ordinated by us, not you. One point of contact, one accountable team.
Tidy, weekly, transparent
Skips out daily, paths swept, weekly photo updates. The smallest thing, but it's the difference between a four-week build that feels calm and one that feels like a war zone.
Why this works in Yateley
Locally tuned, not location-swapped.
Most Yateley renovations land at the same point in the family's life. The kitchen's been done, maybe the loft, and the garden is the one room that's been waiting its turn. The brief is rarely "reinvent it" - it's "finally finish what the house started."
We treat a Yateley renovation as one programme rather than four small jobs. Drainage and levels first, hard landscaping next, planting and lawn last - same site team start to finish so detailing carries through. It's how we avoid the classic mismatch where the patio and the fence and the lawn each look fine, but nothing quite sits with anything else.
- Blackwater-side wet ground - Plots low off Vigo Lane or backing onto the meadows hold water through winter. Patios get lifted falls, sub-bases get an extra 50mm of Type 1, and drainage is sized properly rather than relying on the ground to soak it away.
- Bagshot sand around the Common - Free-draining ground is friendly to patio sub-bases but unfriendly to lawns and most planting unless the topsoil is improved. We import compost and condition before we turf or plant.
- Mature oaks, pines & leaf load - Common-side gardens carry serious leaf litter and substantial root zones. We design garden rooms and terraces around root protection zones and detail gutters and drains for autumn loading.
- Builder's compaction on newer estates - Darby Green, Frogmore and Potley Hill plots almost all share the same story - thin topsoil over compacted hardcore. We lift the top, cultivate or import soil and rebuild sub-bases properly.

off Reading Road · GU46
Full re-design of a long inter-war plot.
A Reading Road family wanted the back third of a long 1930s garden to actually be used. New porcelain terrace off the kitchen, re-levelled lawn, a garden room at the back wall, a low pleached hedge dividing the two spaces, and a single planting palette running the length to tie it all together.

Common questions
What Yateley clients usually ask about garden renovations.
How long does a full Yateley garden renovation take?+
Typical GU46 jobs run four to eight weeks on site, depending on scale and weather. We give you a single programme up-front with the trades sequenced, and one crew running it - not five sub-contractors turning up in random order.
How far ahead do you book?+
Typically six to twelve weeks. Worth getting a conversation started early - the design phase often takes longer than people expect.
Will you handle planting as well as hard landscaping?+
Yes. Trees, hedging, raised beds and structural planting are part of every full renovation. For detailed perennial schemes we'll bring in a designer if it adds value.
How long is the team actually on site?+
Most full renovations run four to ten weeks on site. We agree a programme upfront and update you weekly with photos and progress notes.
