What we mean by garden rooms
The bit beneath the surface.
A garden room is only worth building if it's used every week of the year. That means proper insulation, proper electrics, and proper detailing - not a glorified shed with double doors.
Built to live in year-round
Insulated floor, walls and roof to current Building Regs standards, double-glazed openings, certified electrics. Warm in February, cool in August.
Detailed like a small building
Considered cladding - cedar, painted weatherboard, composite - chosen to sit with the house rather than shout at it. Hidden gutters, proper drips, joinery that ages well.
One team, base to handover
Foundations, frame, build, electrics and surrounding landscaping by us. No subcontractor carousel, no awkward gap between trades.
Why this works in Reading
Locally tuned, not location-swapped.
Reading garden rooms are usually placed at the back of a long Caversham or Tilehurst garden, where they become a quiet destination rather than a building in the middle of the lawn. Used as offices, studios, hobby rooms.
Older Reading suburbs often have long, narrow gardens with original boundary walls. We design with the proportions in mind - wider terraces close to the house, planted zones, and a quiet end-of-garden destination.
- Long narrow proportions - Zoned layouts with planting screens make a long garden feel larger and more interesting than a single open run.
- Limited rear access - Barrowed materials, careful route protection through the house when needed, and a tidy site throughout.
- Mixed Victorian boundary walls - Protected during dig, repaired where they need it; the existing fabric is usually worth keeping.

Caversham · RG4
Painted timber studio at the end of a Caversham garden.
A long Caversham plot wanted a calm working room at the far end. Painted weatherboard, insulated to current standards, set within replanted yew and hornbeam screening so it reads as the natural destination of the garden.

Common questions
What Reading clients usually ask about garden rooms.
Will materials be an issue with our limited rear access?+
Usually not - we barrow what's needed, plan logistics around the access constraint and protect routes carefully. Adds time, not quality.
How long does a typical garden room take?+
Three to five weeks on site once the base is in. We give you a clear week-by-week schedule before starting and stick to it.
Can you tailor it to a specific use - gym, office, studio?+
Yes. We adjust insulation, glazing, power load, ventilation and acoustic detailing to how the room is actually used. A music studio and a home gym are very different builds beneath the cladding.
Will it stay warm in winter and cool in summer?+
Yes - that's the point of building it properly. PIR insulation to current standards, breathable build-up, double or triple glazing and an electric panel heater or AC unit where the room needs one.
